Volunteer Program FAQ

What do volunteers do?
Volunteers will support the Teaching Artist(s) by helping demonstrate games, overseeing small groups, and being an extra pair of eyes! Volunteers will never be assigned to a class without a Teaching Artist and are not expected to prepare curriculum or lessons.

What is the commitment?
The commitment for volunteers is once a week for 10-weeks in a middle school or high school class. Each class is 1-2 hours and takes place either during the school day (approx. between 8:00am - 3:30pm) or after school (approx. btween 4:00pm - 7:00pm). Training is one day for 3 hours. There are volunteer opportunities during both Fall and Spring semesters.

Can I choose when I volunteer?
Yes! Volunteers can choose which day(s) and which time frames work best for their schedules.

Is improv experience required?
Nope! Anyone 18 years-old+ can volunteer.

What is required to volunteer?
Background clearances are required to volunteer in Philadelphia public schools, however, Unscripted will cover all costs related to background checks.

What if I have a conflict?
We ask that our volunteers commit to ten weeks, but if any conflicts should arise, please let Ellie (ellie@unscriptedproject.org) know ASAP.

Will I be reimbursed for travel expenses?
Yes, Unscripted will reimburse any Uber/Lyft fees or Septa card costs. You can submit your expenses using the expense reimbursement form.

How can I apply to become an Unscripted volunteer?
Please fill out the Unscripted Project Volunteer Interest Form, linked
here, and we will reach out.

If I cannot volunteer neither during the school day nor during an afterschool program, are there other ways to get involved as a volunteer?
Yes! Although we are currently prioritizing in-school and afterschool volunteer positions, if you are interested in general volunteering, please reach out to us at info@unscriptedproject.org! We’d love to be in touch.
